December Fun

The month of December was filled beyond capacity (as usual)!  We contiued our tradition of finding a surprise activity each morning in our advent calendar.  I both love and hate this tradition…
Some of the fun things we did was:

* Watch Grinch and have "grinch floats"
*  Make snowflakes
* Go bowling.  Tony beat us all by at least twice our scores.  I think next time I'll use the automatic gutters along with Kaisa and Carson.  We still had a blast though and promised the kids we would go again soon.

*  Watch ELF with rainbow floats and rainbow cookies (Jaxson thought we should try spaghetti with maple syrup like in the movie, but I refused.)
*  Make a deliver treats to neighbors and friends.
*  Make pulla (a braided Finnish sweet bread).
*  Go to the ward party, where the kids got to visit with Santa.  Kaisa kept her distance but Carson had a real heart-to-heart with him.  Carson said Santa told him he "had his eyes on him"!  Which we used to our advantage several times over the next few weeks… :)

*  We went carolling with the cubscouts (WHEN will I get released from scouts?  WHEN?)
*  We read the "Orange Book" and shared a chocolate orange.
*  We went to a live nativity which was awesome and Tony almost got bit by the camel (which was less awesome but kinda funny).

*  We watched Polar Express and drank hot chocolate
*We attended Kaisa's Holiday dance recital.  Her class danced to "Jingle Bell Rock" and she did fantastic, even though she was a little nervous.

*  We went to U-Swirl frozen yogurt.
*  We picked out our first live Christmas tree (in 9 years anyway) which was beautiful and smelled wonderful, but died completely about 3 days before Christmas and turned into a sad, brittle mess.

*  We read Christmas stories.
 *  We played Christmas light hide-and-go-seek.
*  We slept under the Christmas tree as a family, which also involved dancing around the Christmas tree like crazy, delirious elves.  :)  Not the best sleep of the year, but totally worth it.

*  We wrote letters to Santa.
*  We visited some great Christmas lights; one house was even set to music that you could tune into on the radio.  We were all totally impressed.
*  We constructed a gingerbread train (thanks Grandma Campbell!)
