Carson finally got his chance to play sports. He has spent many hours cheering on Jaxson and Kaisa and was so excited to get to be "on the field" himself! From the first mentioning of signing him up, Carson became a little obsessed about when the season would start. Many morning the first sentence out of his mouth was "Is my soccer today?" He was so ready! He had a cute little team and a great coach. Carson wore a grin on his face from beginning to end of each game and was often so excited he "bounced" down the field. His goalie saves were pretty impressive (he would throw in a couple of rolls almost every time).

We were a little nervous when Kaise decided she wanted to play soccer this year. She has never ever played soccer and we didn't want her to get discouraged because Kaisa is an "all or nothing" kind of a girl. So we signed her up to play at FC NOVA which is the most competitive (and closest) soccer league in the area because I guess we are of the same mindset. Of course she got put on a team that has played together for the past 4 years and have never lost a game. We worried that she wouldn't want to continue after her first practice when she couldn't do all the things the other girls could and when we saw how hard the coaches pushed them (there is a reason they are so good!) Kaisa does not like getting yelled at and she got yelled at A LOT. And amazingly she loved every minute of it. I didn't give her credit for how strong and determined she really is. She learned SO much, made lots of new friends and even a goal, never complained, and ended the season still undefeated. Whew!
Jaxson played Optimist Football for the first time. He was so excited when he got his pads and helmet! Unfortunately he was placed on a different team than we had hoped; all his friends in our ward and in the neighborhood are on a team together but the league wouldn't budge and let Jaxson on it. Fortunately he ended up on a great team and made some great friends that he might not have otherwise. And so did all of our family, because you really get to know people when you have to be at practice for 2 hours each weeknight. We had no idea how serious 10 year old football can be! The Bears ended the season just about even. They won some, they lost some, and they tied one. Jaxson played defensive end, tight end, full back, safety, linebacker, and on the kickoff team. Jaxson learned a lot about football, friendship, and frustrating referees. We were told he could be on the neighborhood team next year for sure but it will be hard to leave this team too….
