This is old news, but our family book wouldn't be complete for 2012 without some pictures of our crazy ice storm. It was eerily beautiful and so destructive at the same time. Following our big snow storm, we were hit by an "ice storm" which seems to encapsulate anything outside in pure ice. I have never seen anything like it. Green leaves and blades of green grass completely covered in ice. Then the branches started breaking and we lost power for a couple of days. It was very unsettling to be sitting in our quiet house and hear the snapping of tree branches and sometimes a bigger snap and a "whoooosh" which signalled a tree had become too top-heavy and had snapped in half. Our little playground was hit a couple of times by falling trees. We ended up losing 4 of our big trees; one that crashed through the fence into our neighbors yard. I was so happy (along with everyone else in the area) when it started to thaw. The power came on the night before we left for California. Great timing, huh.
